Cake and crisps ...

There's a joke about ultra-distance running being a cake and crisp eating event with a little running thrown in.  In some respects it's true.  Whereas marathon runners rely on carbohydrate (i.e. sugar) rich gels to avoid hitting the dreaded wall ultra-runners tend to prefer something a little more solid with some fat and salt thrown in, hence the cake and crisps.  With running burning around 500 calories an hour you need to replenish the energy used at every opportunity, especially in an event lasting four days.

Today we've been celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary a couple of days early with a meal out and sharing cake with friends.  A day to forget about training and eat cake!

Total distance this week: just 21.9 miles
Elevation gained: 493 metres
